Historical mining database

There have been numerous books and articles which have documented the Fife Coalfield in great detail. A number of websites have also documented the coalfield and one of the best is Fife Pits and Memorial Book which can be accessed by going to our links page.

We have taken a slightly different approach by looking at school logbooks, histories of towns, villages and hamlets in Fife and other sources and entering any mention of mining however tenuous in the attached database.

By their nature the entries are very brief but we feel they tackle the history of the Fife Coalfield in a unique way that compliments the work done by others.

We hope you enjoy our snapshot of mining life. We hope to build up this database in the coming months. If you have any item of interest please contact Dave Reid who will arrange for the item to be entered in the database. [ view ]
